Christmas isn't always the happiest time of the year for many...

Christmas isn't always the happiest time of the year for many. If you or someone you know becomes agitated, anxious or depressed feeling over the Christmas holidays, there's probably some old hurt that's being stirred up. If so, please read this; I promise it will help.

Until a person addresses their hurt...they're chained to their past. Addressing hurt is uncomfortable-it takes work. Many ignore hurts, reasoning time has passed & nothing can be done. It's true, time has passed, but the hurt hasn't. An unresolved hurt is as alive as the day it happened, but because it has many layers of life on it, it's not always recognized; this leads people to believe they got over it. Many struggle accepting that someone they trusted hurt them-because really, it makes the hurt feel even worse. But until all of the hurt is brought into the light...all of the person can't heal. Minimizing & dismissing the reality of what happened keeps a person chained to the experience & unable to live in the present. Their thoughts & actions operate from the perspective of past pain which keeps their view of the present obscured. Jesus came to save & heal us, bind up our wounds, free us from captivity & bring us out of darkness!

Bring your hurts into the light; acknowledge who hurt you, what they did to you & how you felt. Many believe forgiving is dismissing the harm, but forgiving means you will no longer carry the harm in your heart. When you forgive, you allow Jesus to emotionally remove the chains that kept you bound to them & the hurt they imposed. Next, give Jesus all the emotions you've been carrying related to injury- empty yourself & purge every last drop! You will be flooded with emotions-it's all those years of denying, holding back, minimizing, trying to prove you were good enough & pushing down tears! This is grief at work the way God designed it. Grief recognizes what was lost, stolen or never given; it validates what you experienced & says you matter & what happened to you mattered! Then the love of Jesus will come in like a flood, filling every part of you that was violated, neglected, ridiculed, bullied, forgotten & overlooked. Until His love floods you, you're left in darkness; a prisoner of your own pain.

Acknowledging hurts, surrendering them to Jesus, forgiving those that imposed harm, then grieving is the only way to complete healing. People who refuse this process will go through life with wounds in their heart & never experience the full promises of God. They will impose their hurt on others & always feel cheated because only Jesus can give back what was taken, given away or never received. Jesus is your anchor of hope for your soul-firm & secure! Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. Nothing, no person or situation can separate you from God's love; you are more than a conqueror. Will you let the love of Jesus heal you today? Hurt distorts how you see...
If you've ever been hurt by those who were suppose to love you...you will struggle with believing those who have chosen to love you. Hurt distorts how you see the world because pain obscures your view. Distortion has convinced you that you don't measure up so you try to prove you're worthy enough to be loved. Fear then comes & does a work in your mind-wanting you to believe your worth is determined by others approval of you...this is a lie; another person's approval has nothing to do with your value!

You're God's masterpiece- fearfully & wonderfully made (Eph 2:10, Ps139:14), He chose & loved you first (Jn 3:16) & you're an heir to the King (Rom 8:17). This is God's truth-it will never change nor is it open to debate or speculate. You must make a decision to believe you're loved, chosen & adopted (Eph 1:5, 1:11). Fear wants you to believe you're less than because someone didn't love you like they should have. You overcome this lie with God's truth-your identity is found in God's love & His love never lies or changes!

Until you have revelation of God's love, you will question if His love will fail you like human love did & you will push away those who truly do love you. Ask the Holy Spirit for help-He will give you revelation. Don't take the bait from fear, stand firm on God's truth-He won't forsake you (Deut 31:6). His love never fails or gives up on you (Ps 136:1). If someone didn't love you like they were suppose to-that doesn't make you unlovable that makes something wrong with them! Be purposed in embracing humility daily-the recognition that you can't successfully manage day to day living apart from the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Seek His truth for guidance in every area of your life-go to Him for all big and small situations and everything in between! He will help you balance family, work, relationships, understand the desires of your heart, develop healthy friendships, choose an outfit for a party, have the right words to make a sincere apology, know which over the counter medicine to pick for a sick child, prompt you to call a friend just when they need encouragement, coordinate childcare and give you hope in a hopeless situation, etc. Don't ever minimize the gift of the Holy Spirit…He is your lifeline for living a stable life!

Be purposed in training your mind to ask the Holy Spirit throughout the day what He would say to you regarding the issue you're thinking on. This mental process keeps your mind submitted to His leading and prompting while keeping you tethered to His grace which gives you the ability to exceed your own ability in executing tasks of daily living. God knows everything about you & He's not surprised at all-there's nothing you're dealing with or need to overcome that's too much for God. Your worse mistake, biggest regret, most painful memory, unresolved issues, financial dilemma, mental or medical diagnosis or very unique situation-none of these things are too much for God! He can handle your situation-the question is...will you let Him?

Over the years in counseling sessions people have told me that they prayed, but God didn't answer. A closer look revealed they "prayed" a lot to God about how they wanted Him to handle their situation, but never trusted Him to take it. Until we release our situation, He can't help us.

God gives us the freedom to live life the way we want to, but when we do, we are responsible for managing our situations. Living life God's way promises His protection & provisions. He's planned every second of your life to include wrongs, mistakes & rebellion-He turns each one around for His glory for all who love Him. God's planned every second of your life to make a difference in this world, but you've got to agree with who God says you are so that you can walk in them. God made you with His own hands-you are His masterpiece whether you believe it or not. There's nothing about you that's shocking to God, He's been with you during every hardship, knows each mistake you've made, is fully aware of your shortcomings & He loves you!!!

God wants you to know how much He loves you so you can rest in His provisions & move forward with the life He planned for you! Fulfilling God's plans require a switch in your focus from what you can or can't do to what God will do through you-your ongoing attempts to correct your negative behaviors both frustrate & lead to failure because apart from the guidance & direction of the Holy Spirit your efforts are short lived! It's the very reason many start the race with such vigor only to drop out exhausted, angry & cynical! They moved forward only partially relying on Holy Spirit-either by not renewing their mind with God's truth & not relying on the Holy Spirit for daily revelation or they believed they should be beyond certain failures or above asking for help throughout the day. None of us can walk in the victory God promises unless we're constantly seeking the truth & revelation of Holy Spirit! If we could save ourself-we wouldn't need a Savior!

If you will begin to renew your mind with God's Word & ask the Holy Spirit for revelation-He will guide you in all truth-it's the truth that sets you free! Your focus will change from trying to be free from things to being free in Christ & Who He is, who you are because of Him & what He wants you to do in this world! Are you open to receiving the truth? Do you find yourself in the same kind of problems over & over? Don't settle & accept this as just being your life. The good news is you are the common denominator & God gives wisdom generously without finding fault. You can expect God's wisdom to lovingly give you correction & direction.

God asks one thing from us when we seek Him & that is that we believe Him. Not just believe in His existence, but to believe He loves us & will abundantly provide all our needs-more than we can dare imagine! God wants us to boldly approach Him & to confidently expect an answer. But be careful to not reduce His answer to that of mere human wisdom & knowledge by placing it along side of opinions from others or in the mix with your own reasoning. God calls this double-minded thinking & He says to not expect you will receive anything from Him!

If you find yourself being double minded immediately ask God for forgiveness & to help you with your unbelief. He will-remember, He gives wisdom generously without finding fault! You do not have to grope through life wondering how you're going to get by & for goodness sake don't ever say, "this is just how my life goes." Run your race...baby!

Run your race, baby! There are many reasons God's people don't finish the race He calls them to, but the reason I hear most is the rejection of His grace. God's grace is our fuel to run daily-without it we're left to move forward in our intellect & stamina. Regardless of how smart & strong a person is-they have limits...God has none! God's grace gives us the ability to go beyond our own ability! But let's be real, the race is still grueling most days & none of us are exempt from exhaustion; it doesn't mean we're unworthy or unusable-it just means we're human & weak. Our end is God's beginning. We have to seek His grace daily-yesterday's grace doesn't work today & moving forward in our strength & trying to be a superhero doesn't impress God.

You were purposed to run the race-you have what you need to win! Focus on your run-don't compare yourself to others; God only wants to talk to you about your personal progress. Persevere & move through obstacles of hurt, rejection, lies, let downs, grief, fear, unfairness & unknowns; each one makes you rely on Jesus more-His power is made perfect in your weaknesses. When what you see doesn't line up with what you expected-don't drop out of the race… put your hope in God's power not man's wisdom. Remember, God's not giving up on you-don't you give up on Him!

The race isn't over until you go to Heaven; if you're breathing-God can still carry out His plans through you. Do life with other Christians who will be honest with you-challengoing where you are in the race, not to judge you, but to hold you accountable. God purposed & approved you; don't let anyone tell you different...the Spirit of Jesus lives in you-enough said! Run your race, baby! God planned it long ago & it's won! When we're tested...
In John 6:5 Jesus asked Phillip for a human solution to an impossible situation-to feed 5,000 men plus their families even though their wasn't any food available. Jesus did this to test & strengthen Phillip's faith. While Phillip was reasoning potential solutions & becoming frustrated another disciple found a boy carrying 5 loaves of bread & 2 pieces of fish-hardly enough to feed the crowd. But Jesus took the ridiculously insignificant amount of food into His hands & gave thanks to the Father for providing. Every person was fed & had more than enough-12 baskets of food were left over!

God's Word says He provides all our needs-exceedingly, abundantly more than we can ever imagine. Whatever we release into the hands of Jesus will be offered up to the Father-He takes our not enough & turns it into an exponential potential...more than enough! This is God's promise to all who trust in Him-sadly fear wins in the minds & hearts of many due to their own wisdom convincing them to rely on their abilities instead of God's power. They hold tight to their plans in life-reasoning they can control what they have or that because they don't have enough they aren't going to release it. This belief forfeits the miraculous provisions of God.

It's not the amount we have…it's how much of the amount we're willing to release into the hands of Jesus & then believe that God will make something of it. Don't hold back giving what you have & forfeit the promised provisions of God. Apart from God you can do nothing, but with His strength you can do all things He asks of you! Believing during the unknown & uncomfortable...

It's how we act while in the places we don't want to be that determine how long we need to be there. Character grows when we're in places we don't want to be. Believing is easy when all is going as planned...people we love are getting along & following Jesus, the home sold as predicted, raise & bonus money came through, doctors report was healthy, slow sales picked up, hard work & commitment are recognized, etc. But the kind of believing that walks us through every trial is the believing that still believes when we see no way out & our world is crumbling around us; that's the kind of believing that no devil in hell can ever steal! But that kind of believing isn't developed just because we say believe-we have to be tried & tested to get to that type of believing!

It's believing God during the unknown & uncomfortable which lead to unwavering faith! It's where we realize we never had any control to begin with-we just relied a lot on familiar routines, comforts & predictable schedules. It's where we're honest, mad, sad & crying laying before God & holding nothing back...asking Him how are we suppose to get through! It's in these places that God gets us exactly where He wants us-a place of being raw & real with Him that leads us to trust His truth...the truth that sets us free!!!

Embrace these seasons & know the love of God & be known by Him. One more thing-these seasons can't be avoided, but you never fail either...you will grow & develop or stay there until you cooperate! The wrongs done to you...

Release the ashes-the wrongs done to you. Wrong things were done to you...but you are not wrong. Let go of the memories that chain you to the past & what you believe about you because of what someone did or said to you. God loves you-you're His masterpiece! Allow His love to soothe & His Word to cleanse all your wounds. Stop looking to others to make you okay-you will be disappointed each time. Others can't heal you-only Jesus can. Stop the replays in your mind-all the lies that tell you that you're a mistake, left over or not good enough. Hand the lies to Jesus-He will give you His approving love in exchange.

Jesus has no agenda, other than to unconditionally love all of you, but you're uncomfortable receiving love with no conditions attached -you learned that love had to be earned. You can't earn God's love- He loved you before you ever knew Him. He chose you & tenderly knitted you together with His hands-you're His masterpiece. Lift your head & look up-your Father is smiling & He desires for you to know how much you are loved by Him! God's love for you isn't measured by what you've done or where you've been-He loves you because that's what He does-God is love!

Will you make a decision to believe God even though you don't feel it. Will you allow the Holy Spirit to heal your spirit & help you renew your mind every day with God's Word? Are you trapped inside of your head??? You're feeling desperate because you're losing perspective-desperation is anchored in fear. Fear is from the enemy; he attacks your thoughts to create distortions & oppose God's truth. When this happens your perspective skews your view of the truth & your thoughts get distorted. Your perception is your reality…what you perceive is what you believe. When this happens, you feel kind of crazy because you know God's Word, but you also feel so hopeless. You feel bad for feeling hopeless, because you say you should know…then guilt floods you. You're trapped inside your own head!!! The enemy has you right where he wants you-desperate, confused & guilty!

A mind focused on emotions leads to death…a mind focused on the Spirit leads to life & peace. Where the Spirit of the Lord is-there is freedom. Don't settle-you feel it's impossible to turn your mind around & it is apart from Christ, but nothing is impossible for God! Apart from Him you can do nothing…but you can do all things when He strengthens you! He will strengthen you to His truth-His power is perfected in your weakness. Your feelings will change, your thoughts will get distorted & your hope will fail at times, but your Father God will never change, His Word is true all of the time & most of all…He will never fail you!
